Volkswagen Beach Buggy

Overview

Built to extremely high standard by Flatlands Engineering, All Beach Buggies have an element of individuality, but this one certainly stands head and shoulders above the crowd as a simply stunning example. Just picture the hot California sunshine streaming down onto the desolate sands of the Baja desert, when the peaceful isolation is shattered by the rather impertinent prattle of an air-cooled VW engine as a brightly coloured Dune Buggy, or as we Brits prefer, a Beach Buggy, comes bounding across the landscape. This strange open cockpit contraption was the brainchild of Bruce Meyer and was designed for one single purpose, to have fun, and lots of it. In the mid-60s Bruce’s idea was to produce a car in kit form that utilised the plentiful and cheap to buy VW Beetle as a donor. Little did he know how popular, and unfortunately for him, frequently copied, his invention would become. The Meyers Manx, as it became known, soon saw its popularity take it far and wide away from the rolling dunes of California and onto the streets as far away as London. So many copies were made by unscrupulous companies that it is rare to find an Authentic Meyers Manx available to buy, until today that is.
